Fort York Drums Fort York Centre

The Fort York Drums was founded in 2000 by the Friends of Fort York.  The Drums recreate the fifers and drummers of the Canadian Regiment of Fencible Infantry, a regiment raised specifically for the defense of Canada.

The Drums have quickly grown to be a recognizable and popular entity at Historic Fort York. They perform daily at the fort during the summer months, and travel throughout the year promoting the fort and its activities.  With the exception of the drum major, fife major and members of the Fort York Guard, the Drum Corps is made up of volunteers between the ages of 11–16.

Recordings

In 2002, the Fort York Drums recorded its first CD called To Follow the Drum.  This recording contains a variety of authentic military music from the War of 1812 period.  The CD is $15, plus shipping and handling when purchased directly from the Friends of Fort York.  To order your copy, email fofy@sympatico.ca.  Special prices and terms are available for retailers.  The CD is also available at the Fort York Canteen.

Recruiting

The Drum Corps is always looking for new members.  Those interested in joining the corps should contact the Drum Major by email at fortyorkguard@yahoo.ca.  Belonging to the Drums requires a significant time commitment.  Practices occur every other Saturday between January and May.  During the summer months, the drum's volunteers are encouraged to be at the fort as frequently as possible.  There is a $25 administration fee to join, but all equipment, training, travel expenses and uniforms are provided.
