The Fort York Guard

Mission Statement

The roll of The Fort York Guard is to perform military drill, music and activities of the British Army of the early 19^th century for the visitors of Historic Fort York. Through thorough training and research, the Guard will become a Canadian leader in military animation. The Guard will strive to contribute to the well being of Historic Fort York.

Vision

The Fort York Guard will be a superior Toronto attraction. It will not only enhance visitors’ experiences at Historic Fort York, but it will also be a draw unto itself. The Guard will be a living monument to those who fought and served at Fort York. The Guard will be renowned for its professionalism and excellence in the field of military animation.

Goals

Excellence in Military Demonstration: The Guard will constantly strive to improve its product on and off the parade square. Proper military dress, drill and deportment will contribute to developing the Guard to its fullest potential.

Continuous Research and Product Development: The Guard management will constantly be evaluating demonstrations of the Guard, and looking for ways to improve its educational and entertainment value.

Fostering Fort York as a tourist destination: Through all of the Guard’s functions it will strive to improve Fort York as a museum and a Toronto attraction. It will work to increase the visibility of Fort York in the community, and develop interest in, and excitement for, Toronto’s birthplace.
