  • Fabled City. Allies in Troubled Times: The Mississauga First Nation in the Battle of Fort York

    Sun. April 1, 7 to 9 pm
    The Mississauga Nation chose to fight alongside British troops to defend Fort York against the invading Americans. Poet and storyteller Stacey LaForme of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation brings to life these troubled times. The evening will also include a short tour of the Fort, focusing on First Nations involvement in the War of 1812. Refreshments are included.

  • Parler Fort: Exploring Toronto’s Past, Present, and Future. Battleground Toronto: An Introduction to Our War of 1812 (March 2012)

    Join historians RICHARD FELTOE, author of Redcoated Ploughboys: The Volunteer Battalion of Incorporated Militia of Upper Canada 1813-1815 and SANDY ANTAL, author of A Wampum Denied: Proctor's War of 1812 as they discuss the roles played by volunteer Upper Canadians, First Nations allies, and the regular British army in defending Toronto and Upper Canada in the War of 1812.

  • From the Ashes of War, the Birth of a Nation

    Wed. February 8, 9 am to 5 pm
    Presented by Senior College of the University of Toronto and Fort York National Historic Site, this one-day event will explore the literature and music inspired by the War of 1812, the battle at York, the participation of women, and the contribution of Aboriginal peoples. Throughout the day guests will be treated to 1812 food and ambiance while hearing lectures and discussions from leading historians. A concluding panel of scholars will discuss the significance of the war for Canada, for the United States, and for the world.

  • Gingerbread Make and Bake (2016)

    Extra fun for kids at Fort York (ages 4 and up)
    Tues. to Sat. December 27 to 31, 11 am and 2 pm
    While you enjoy a tour of Fort York your kids can join the cooks in the Officers' Mess kitchen to create traditional gingerbread cookies. In this hands-on workshop, kids will use period cooking utensils and tools to sift flour, crush cinnamon, cloves, or allspice, pound sugar and grate nutmeg and ginger as they prepare an 1800s gingerbread recipe. Samples may be taken home–if they last that long! Workshop is limited to 15 participants.
    Included with regular admission, sign up in the Museum Store when you arrive.

  • Queen Charlotte's Birthday Ball (2017)

    Queen Charlotte's Birthday Ball recalls a significant event in Toronto's history, a Ball organized by the officers of the Garrison at York (Fort York) on 20 January 1817.
    Our event is a Ball recreating an early 19th century social gathering. It offers instruction in period dance, a guest lecturer, an extensively researched and authentically prepared Georgian supper, and concludes with an evening of English Country Dancing. This year's dance callers are Tom and Toni Tumbusch.

Join author, critic, and journalist John Bentley Mays as he discusses "Toronto: Built and Unbuilt" with Mark Osbaldeston, author of Unbuilt Toronto and Unbuilt Toronto 2 (Dundurn, 2008 and 2011) and Phil Goodfellow, co-author of A Guidebook to Contemporary Architecture in Toronto (Douglas & McIntyre, 2010).
