Explore the history of Toronto with all kinds of hands-on activities, pop-up shows and multi-dimensional exhibits at Fort York National Historic Site. During the day, visit the fort’s 1826 historic kitchen and sample some baking and hot chocolate from the original stone hearth. Blue Barracks Hall will be an amazing scene of crafts and family fun brought down to the fort from museums all across the city, including Gibson House, Spadina Museum, Montgomery’s Inn, Todmorden Mills and Mackenzie House. In the evening, stay warm in the Fort York Visitor Centre with family-friendly performances, activities and face painting. Make sure to bring your skates – The Bentway @ Fort York skating trail will be open until 9 pm.

Come together with fellow food enthusiasts for tastings, workshops and professional demonstrations that explore how people in centuries gone by survived and even thrived during Canada’s long winter months. Presented this year in partnership with the Ontario Black History Society. Ticket price includes refreshments and a multi-course luncheon.

Bring your family down to Fort York National Historic Site for a day of March Break adventure! Children will have fun dressing up in period costumes and experiencing soldiers’ foot drill, officers’ sword drill and musical workshops. Pick up a Kids’ Guide to Fort York and have fun finding the clues to complete games and puzzles throughout your tour. Visitors of all ages can sample treats from the hearth of the 1826 historic kitchen. Indoor exhibits of the historic buildings will be open while the Fort York Visitor Centre has the excitement of the multi-media Battle of York Experience. No registration required.

Fort York, birthplace of urban Toronto, will celebrate Canada Day with a day-long, all-ages celebration packed with family-friendly activities, demonstrations, tours and performances. In addition to flag raising and flag lowering ceremonies, the Fort York Summer Guard, dressed as members of the Canadian Regiment of Fencible Infantry (circa 1815), will perform demonstrations of musketry, artillery, and fife and drum music. Children can enjoy a drill activity, music classes and a scavenger hunt. The fort's volunteer historic cooks will demonstrate period-specific cooking methods and recipes in the historic kitchen—allowing visitors to see, hear and taste what life must have been like for the fort's first garrisons. Free guided tours of barracks and fortifications will focus on the evolution and history of the original western entrance into Toronto harbour and highlight the lives of soldiers and officers at Fort York.

Join Toronto Summer Music Festival for a full afternoon of events with a feature performance by the Canadian National Brass Project at The Bentway Skate Trail. The project includes the best brass players in Canada who join forces each summer from orchestras across North America. Concert goers will also be treated to military music by the Fort York Drums (a fife & drum corps) and given complimentary admission to Fort York after the concert for an artillery demonstration by the Fort York Guard. Fort York comes to life in honour of the first Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of Upper Canada (1793-96) and founder of Fort York and the Town of York – John Graves Simcoe. Walk the historic grounds and thrill to musketry, artillery and music demonstrations presented by the Fort York Guard and Guards from Fort George National Historic Site from Niagara-On-The-Lake and Old Fort Erie. Visit the working kitchen in the 1815 Officers' Brick Barracks, take tours of the Fort's buildings and grounds and discover the dynamic lives of the Fort's men, women and children. Join the Métis Nation of Ontario’s (MNO) Summer Youth Program for a "Red River Jig" workshop in the Blue Barracks Hall where participants will learn more about the unique fusion of traditional European step dancing and First Nations Pow-wow dancing.
